My hair is thin and fine and I find that I can't keep it any longer than shoulder length, because it's always stuck to my head. If your hair is straight, you'll be happiest with a blunt cut just above the shoulder. If it's wavy or curly at all, play up the curls with lots of product and get your hair dresser to cut in some long layers. Otherwise, BLUNT!! Layers will only make your straight hair look thinner. You can have long layers but don't go for short ones. A blunt perimeter to the hair cut will be best also.

You could try a layered look to add depth to your hair. Then get a face frame in the front. Go to Supercuts...they do an awesome job. My hair is like yours and I'm having nothing but good hair days ever since!!
get a texture perm!i know perms are horrible. but on a 'normal' sized head doing a 10 rod perm on jumbo rods helps mine. i have a small head mine takes 8.

try rebonding ur hair, (that is permanent straightening), its a little expensive but worth the money, u won't need to do anything else, jus wash and wear and it looks professionally styled each time.

You can thin your hair out with a good cut. Tell them you would like to thin it and they will layer it in a way that decreases it's volume. I'm sure many are reading this and only wishing they had your hair! My sister once had the first inch or so from the back of the neck and up butched close to her head to thin hers but if you wear pony tails or any other up do's that doesn't look to great. Growing out longer layers will also weigh your hair down making it look not as think.

Sounds like your already in the habit of shaving, but there are lotions that we can apply that eventually make shaving less... I think Nivea has one of these products. Read the directions on the bottles, but your suppose to use after you shave and it will reduce the hair during re-growth.. It's worth a try.
waxing is a lot cheaper than electrolysis. kinda painful so try your arms first. no stubble or razor bumps after waxing and after a while, the hair will grow in finer and weaker.

Thin hair is actually okay for Emo styles in my opinion. Don't get a razor cut but get choppy short layers and the whole emo bangs. Maybe have a sideswept fringe.

I had the same problem with the hair loss, but not the thyroid problem. I stopped using shampoos with sulfates which are only added to make the shampoo have more suds. I make have all natural bath %26amp; body products and have for years and it is not good for you. You can get a sulfate free shampoo at walmart or sally's beauty supply, it will take a few washings for your hair to get used to, but you will see a difference. Also, only use conditioner from the nape of your neck down, using conditioner on the roots of your hair can cause the hair follicles to soften, therefore, causing you to loose more hair. It does sound rough, not conditioning your whole head, but it is not that bad, I have very long hair, 4 feet worth of hair. Give this a try, you should see some results within a few months.

The last person who answered is right: bangs will help a high forehead; they will also create thickness.
Also, when you have your hair cut, you need some slight layering to add thickness. Too much layering will take away volume, but slight layering adds thickness. My gf is gorgeous, but she has very fine hair, and she wears this style. It looks fabulous.
Oh, and one last thing: those volume shampoos really do work for some people, or the pantene that adds 30% more fullness. THAT WORKS!!!

The easiest way to make lank, fine hair look fuller and thicker is to wash it more frequently. When it's dirty, fine hair can look lifeless, but when your locks are just washed you get more bounce and a fuller look.
Choose a shampoo which gives your hair more body to thicken it and big it up! Conditioning is important but don't overdo it with thick creamy formulations that can weigh down your hair and make-it look lank again.
Give fine flyaway hair, bounce and body by blunt cutting - cutting the hairs straight across so that all the ends are exactly the same length.
Shoulder length or a bob style can be slightly graduated to give it more volume, while short hair can be blunt cut and the edges graduated to give it movement.
Remember- the longer it gets the wispier it will look. Better to keep it shorter if you want it to look fuller.
If you're desperate for longer locks you could try hair extensions which will add length and volume. Or, how about the temporary clip-on ones for a special night out?
I recently got hair extensions woven in and I removed them after only two weeks b/c I went on vacation in Hawaii and was in the ocean a lot and they got kind of scraggly. The girl that did them braided my hair very tight to ensure that i wouldn't need to get them retightened after my trip. That didn't help much. My scalp is very dry and i have dandruff for the first time in my life. When I was removing the braids that she sewed the extensions in my hair starting coming out in handfuls. WHY?? I am devastated b/c although my hair wasn't super thick to begin with i have about half as much hair as i did before the extensions. I am super depressed and am wondering if anyone has any solutions or treatments. I don't want to cut my hair (even though i prob should) and have started taking prenatal vitamins for the nutrients for hair and nails, but is there anything else i can do??? PLEASE HELP!!!!!!!!

You could try making your own. Nettle shampoo thinkens the hair but you will have to wait untill the nettles start growing, just boil them up in a pan let them simmer for a couple of hours, melt some unperfumed soap in a saucepan and strain the liquid from the nettles in.
But if thats too much trouble you can buy nettle shampoo in Boots. Rub some (a tiny drop) of baby oil into your hair and the frizz will go.

You can get it straigtened at a salon most call it Chinese straigtning. Its expense (like 200-400) but it makes your hair pin straight. you have damaged your hair very badly. massage your scalp with wheatgerm oil.
Stop processing your hair. YOu should allow maybe 6 weeks after bleaching or dying your hair so it can relax and regain it's health. SO next time take it slow and wait a little before processing your hair again.
In order to regrow your hair you should STop processing it. Then massage your head everyday lik ewhen your in the shower. Oh and try using Wella In-Depth Treatment. YOu can find it at sally's beauty supply. I have really course dry hair and after dying it I needed something that would help it not be so dry and the lady at the salon said to use this treatment. I am a profesional Hair dresser of 15 Years and still going. So this would be my advise to my client.. Depends on how long will you need it to be brown? The best is using a Demi-permant color like Color sync from Matrix(Done by a professional) it will last long on your hair and get al whole lot of shine. About 6 - 8 weeks depending on your hair, Although, you will need to know if its fine dont do too dark, and also it will let it go within 4 weeks or so. But it wont damage your hair!!

There are a few good professional ones out there, Lets start with Matrix Amplify Its made for fine hair and they have not only a great shampoo but a great root booster to give your hair extra volume without the stickiness.
Then there is also Nioxen which is made for fine %26amp; thining hair,they use these products for cancer patients that have gone threw Cemo to help groe there hair back! You can find these products at your local beauty saply store or salons! Good Luck
Oh yeah I would NOT recamend Pantene ....It will strip hair color right out of your hair NO JOKE.....most stor bought products are full of wax thats why you think It makes your hair soft. Its not really helping your hair, Its just fooling you.

I have tried alot. I wouldn't say that there is just one good one out there. My trick is I use at least 2 different conditioners %26amp; shampoo throughout the week. For example, mon %26amp; tues I use a light shampoo with a volumizing conditioner, wed %26amp; thurs I use a hydrating shampoo with a light conditioner, and so on, and so on. The clue is that you don't get the buildup of using the same ones for too long because they build up on your hair and make your hair heavy and limp.
I have extremely oily hair, i wash it every night with a clarifying shampoo and when I make up the following morning it already looks a little greasy! It's pretty long, probably about 15 inches, and it's fine and thin. Does anyone have any tips for me? I'm getting it cut tomorrow and I'm thinking about perming it. If i perm it, it will be a demi-perm so I don't fry my hair, and my stylist will use purple and white rollers, kind of like a spiral perm.

I have oily and thin hair but I wash mine every morning. I use Paul Mitchell Gentle Cleansing shampoo and the conditioner for colored hair. It seems to work good for me. Maybe you should try washing it in the morning and maybe try a different shampoo. If you perm your hair be very careful so you don't get it fried. I tried that too and I regretted it, it is back to straight now.

I always try to talk my clients out of perms. The problem is, theres no way to touch a perm up, And with thin hair, it tends to loosen quickly. How about some highlights. Bleach creates whats called desirable damage and that can help add volume to fine hair and possibly dry some of that oiliness.
Keep using a claryfying shampoo once or twice a week and invest in some great volumizing products. Purology is expensive but their volumizing lotion is awesome.
Maybe using a spray in conditioner instead of a cream conditioner. That helps me.
You cannot completely get rid of oily hair, but..
Things that cause oily hair: unhealthy diet, stress, using too much conditioner, humidity, shampooing too much (since you are stripping the natural oils out of your hair, causing even more oil, and this goes for skin too. if you have oily skin, don't wash too often!)
there are products that are specifically for oily hair. Like mild shampoos and conditioners, often labeled clairifying.
use a little bit of baby powder in your hair in the morning. When I wake up late and don't really have time to wash my hair I just put some baby powder in my hair and it makes is less greasy. It works but it does make your hair a little staticy if you brush it a lot.
I let my hair grow over the summer and got it cut right before school started and they cut like 2 inches off!! how often should i get it cut if i want to grow it out. (because if you go like every 3 months they cut like a zillion inches off) P.S i dont want to never get it cut because then its look shaggy and ratty.
every 2 months but specify to your hairdresser how much you want cut off.

saw a woman the other day with shoulder length deep red hair. i guess copper colored. she had it parted in the middle and feathered like victoria prinicipal on the old tv show dallas. havent seen a woman with that style in years and to be honest it was exceedingly attractive on her. she had an oval face and the steryotypical high irish forehead that many irish redheaded women have. dont know if you have the high forehead but it looked good on her and may look nice on you as well.

Why would you want thin hair?
Heavy conditioning treatment will weigh it down if you do it often enough. You could also use a flat iron. Mine makes my hair straight as a pin. I have to use root lifter to fluff it up a little cause all straighteners do that.
Have a professional thin your hair with either thinning shears or a razor. But please do not od this at home. It can get really messy and if you get to close to the crown, scalp , or top layer of hair then you are going to see short hairs poking up all over.
my hair is exactly the same way. I find that the classic ponytail or messy bun works out best for everyday wear, because it gets the hair away from your face and doesn't stick flat to your head. For days when you want to look prettier, wearing it down can work, but you have to do it just right. Take a shower and put a tiny bit of conditioner on the bottom half of your hair to make your hair shinier and smoother. When you get out, wrap your hair in a towel so that it dries somewhat, then, comb your hair out so it has no knots. After you do this, flip your head upside down and blow dry it. This will keep your hair volumized for atleast a few hours. To help it stay that way, throughout the day, flip your head upside down and brush your hair away from your head. Products like Dove Foam conditioner are great for fine hair, because they rinse out almost completely, so will not make your hair flat as a pancake...

I have the same problem. Don't get layers on the back of your head or it will make it look like you have a lot less hair. Shorter hair is better when you fine hair. If you let it get too long, it gets weighed down.

I would suggest that you get a good haircut to get rid of the dry-split ends and then have the stylist color your hair so that it is all one color. The bottom of your hair may also be lighter because of the dry ends.
Use a volumizing shampoo and a good hair conditioner. Wash your hair more often to keep your scalp and hair closest to your scalp from getting greasy and dirty looking. When you put the conditioner on, just put it on the ends of your hair. You don't need to put the conditioner on your scalp. I squirt the conditioner in my hands, rub my hands together and then just place the conditioner on the ends.
get your hair cut/trimmed to help the ends. then, once a week use olive oil when you wash your hair. heat up a bit of it then put it in wet hair (just the ends for you!). leave in for 3-5mins then shampoo and condition as usual.
for the greasy roots, you can do a egg white treatment on the roots when you do the olive oil treatment, minus the heating of course. also, for a quick fix when it's looking greasy put some baby powder on and work it in, then brush. it soaks up some of the grease.
straighten it and tease the hair in the back a little and wear a cute headband!
I have thin hair too and I totally understand where you are coming from. I found that having thin hair is REALLY great for styling. Unlike thick hair that resists curls and takes forever. I would recommend using the curling iron or hot rollers and curling your hair. Spritz with hairspray lightly. It will look nice and voluminous on you. You can still do a ponytail with curls to give a fun look. You can also put it in a messy bun to bring attention to your face.
If you want a long soft wavy hairstyle do the one on the left, but now there is a short hair trend in, so you might want to do the one on the right.

I've heard that you can use a razor but when I tried it, it didn't work too well. I have "emo hair" lol.. and it's thick, so when I part it to the side and sweep it over, it's very thick on top and kindof "poofs" out. Any advice?
Okay, yep i had the same probs but when u sweep it over do it when u have just had a shower so when your hair is wet. Then dry it and usually is shouldnt poof out. I have rili thick hair and i found sweeping it over when its wet helps. Over suggestion is to go to a hairdressers and ask them to thin it out. Or maybe 'i havnt tried this' but try thinning it without thinning scissors if you no how to.
