I have really thick hair, with big waves and curls, how could I thin my hair so its less poofy?

I had a friend before that had that same problem. Her hairdresser would specifically thin her hair with special scissors to reduce the thickness. It really made a huge difference and made her hair more manageable. So perhaps find a hairdresser that does this, I am sure it's just about the same as getting a regular haircut. Doing it yourself could risk not getting the right balance all around.

I love my curly hair!

Use thinning shears/scissors. They are specially made scissors you can get at a beauty/barber supply store or order from Froogle.

you can weight it down with a leave in conditioner. big full hair is sexy though.

If you don't want to have it thinned out( by a hair dresser cutting out layers) you can use shampoos that are designed to defrizz and tons of leave in stuff that work great. My favorites are frizz ease, pantene sleek and shine, and aussie. They are really light weight and don't give you the greazy look. Also after you put the product in, use a flat iron ( hair straightener, like a curling iron, but it's two flat pieces together) this will give you the silky look that you see on tv. Make sure it's completely dry first or it'll kink back up.

Go to the hair dresser and let them do.

They'll thin it out.

It'll look better and feel lighter.

You could try a hair straightener, I have one that my best friend gave me and it is great, it has ceramic plates which I think are the best. My hair is natuarally quite thick and the straigtener smoothes it out perfectly!

you could try gel, hairspray, leave in conditioner, or ask your hair stylist to thin your hair the next time you get your hair cut.

You can have your hair thinned at a salon but, this is not going to get rid of the poof it will enhance your curls, and waves. The best answer would be to get layers to reduce the bulk of it but it also will enhance your curl. However you won't have a poof.

wash it in the night - then comb in a cream and comb it into a bun and let it dry...it will be shiny and wavy when you wake up

i've heard that blowdrying it helps. but thats also damaging to your hair...

Thinning %26lt;the use of thinning shears further up the hair shaft than just texturing the ends%26gt; will only make your hair "bigger". I suggest a "japanese thermal straightening" treatment to change the "texture" of your curl pattern. It will make your hair lay smooth for the sleek styles that are popular right now. It will save you all the time it costs you with straightening irons etc. The process takes a long time and can be costly. The maintenance is about the same as a perm would be... some people get perms every three months, some people once or twice a year. It really depends on how fast your hair grows and how curly your new growth appears when its growing in. It is OK to tell the technician who performs the procedure that you do not necessarily want perfectly straight hair... just less poofy. Please don't make the mistake of thinking thinning your hair with thinning shears will make it look less poofy. The shorter hairs hold out the longer hairs and it will actually make it look worse... unless you have the time to flat iron it every day.

I HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM!!! My hair is really short about shoulder length, and tight ringlets. Its sooooooooo thick and unbearable. When i get out of the shower it looks great but throughout the day it gets poofy...i plan to get it thinned but i'm hearing some bad stuff. Should i get it thinned, its unbearable?
