I bought my own hair thinning scissors at a Drug Store and did it myself. I went to Barnes and Noble book store to read up how to do it. You will find the infor you want there. Piece of cake!

To thin your hair;

take a pair of scissors and open it up. Hold it so it's sort of like a gun (one finger in the center of the two arms of the scissors, I don't know how to explain it) and run this along a few pieces of hair. It's pretty painless and the hair falls out really simply. Just keep doing that all the way around your head a few times until you're satisfied.

I'm not too much help with the layering thing but:

Try to form a V or U shape with your hair. It makes it look a lot better and more defined.

I demonstrate a mesh by mesh cut, done by myself on this site. It is easy. Also thinning mesh by mesh is the same, except you use a thinning shears (available at Sallys.com) and that does the trick. Pincurled
